Kaspersky says April attacks used Windows, Google Chrome flaws

MOSCOW, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- Russia’ Kaspersky registered several attacks in April when the perpetrators used earlier unknown vulnerabilities of operating system Windows and browser Google Chrome, the antivirus software maker said on Wednesday in a statement.

“In April 2021 the Kaspersky experts discovered a series of targeted attacks performed via the Chrome browser with the use of previously unknown zero-day exploits. One of them allowed the hackers to run a code in the browser remotely and the second, written for work with the latest and most popular Windows 10 sets, increased the privileges,” the statement read.

Zero-day vulnerability is a previously unknown bug which helps hackers to operate stealthily.

Kaspersky said that the vulnerabilities were removed.

“We could not attribute these target attacks to either of the known cyber groups and named their authors PuzzleMaker. We’ll watch their further actions closely,” Kaspersky’s cybersecurity expert Boris Larin said.
